Structural Analysis Foundations
A twelve-week evening course covering load paths, statically determinate structures, and the first steps into indeterminate analysis for career changers and early-career technicians.

Who it is for
People moving into structural design from site, architecture, or related trades, and technicians who want firmer hand-calculation habits before relying on software output. You should be comfortable with GCSE-level algebra and basic trigonometry; we revise the rest in the first two weeks.
What you leave with
A marked portfolio of beam, frame, and simple continuous-beam calculations; a shared vocabulary for reactions, shear, and moment; and a clear sense of when a hand check belongs beside a computer model.

How it runs
Classes meet on Tuesday evenings at 267 Fold Croft. Studio evenings use the same room: you pin calculations on the wall boards, tutors mark live, and peers review load-path sketches. Expect six to eight hours of private study between sessions.
Preparation
Bring a scientific calculator, A3 sketch paper, and a scale rule. We post a short reading list two weeks before term. If you have been away from maths for years, complete the optional refresher worksheet before week one.
Constraints
Places are capped at sixteen so marking stays thorough. Missed lectures are not recorded; you receive notes and can book a catch-up slot once per term.
